Paper Girls Guest Designer! Split Letter Monogram Wedding Gift

Happy Wednesday everyone! I am honored this month to be a guest designer for the wonderful blog of Paper Girls Challenge Blog! The fun challenge this go round is for the theme Home or Family! Check it out here, we’d love to see what you create for this exciting first challenge of the new year!

My project is a piece I made for a wedding gift for my cousin. Wowzers was it a time consuming process to get all the little bits and pieces straight, but I’m so excited about how it turned out! And rather than try and write out the directions (we’re creative souls, so we are visual learners anyway, right?) I’ll send you over to Melody Lane, a lifesaver with great tutorials for this awesome Cricut project. Click here for her tutorial!

I searched design space for some extra flourishes, etc. to paste around my letter once it was split and welded everything together to get this look. Once it was cut, I stuck it down (a few tries) to the casserole dish, using an exacto knife to place down all the tiny pieces. Once you’re SURE that there are no air bubbles, cover in armor etch, leave the room for 5 mins (that stuff stinks!) and wash off! Viola!

Tip! Ok so laying the vinyl down (repeatedly) until it’s straight is definitely tedious. I recommend putting your glass dish over a cutting mat with a ruler or grid on it to help expedite the process! It takes some doing to get everything aligned; next time I might do this in pieces rather than one big connected sheet of vinyl. If you have thoughts, I’d love to hear them!

Supplies needed:

  • Casserole dish (TJ Maxx $7)
  • Amour Etch ($8 with a coupon at Michaels)
  • Cheap Vinyl (can be found at the dollar store)
  • Cricut (hopefully you already have one of these, this project would be too hard without it!)
  • Font cartridges or Cricut Design Space
  • a couple hours of free time

Have fun with it – this is an unbeatable personalized gift! And *great* for potlucks – no one will ever get your dishes confused with theirs 😉

Sending happy holiday wishes and creative energy to you, my friends!
